Reflections
(Closing lines inspired by Jason Gray's song "Becoming")
It’s okay to not feel so intensely anymore
It’s okay that you’ve forgotten
There’s a lot you still remember
It’s good to revisit where you’ve been
All that you’ve gone through
So don’t dismiss the journey
It may be good now
Don’t be afraid that some things
Are better now than they used to be
You are free to be grateful
You are free to enjoy this moment
Even though it used to be so bad
It’s good now
And it’s likely to get bad again
We’re all imperfect beings
Who are likely to hurt and be hurt
One too many times over
Having forgotten the pain
and the intensity of emotion
is also acceptable
A positive sign, perhaps
But don’t forget
The One who walked with you
Through it all
Our days build up
Our relationships too
Through the mundane and the pain
He is in every moment
The ones that you remember
And the ones that you forget
He holds it all
You move one step forward
And two steps back
But maybe that’s what growing means
Maybe that’s what progress is
So far from where I was
So far from where I want to be
