Goodbye Again
Dedicated to Anissa Ann Biju
I stood for a moment
Where we last said goodbye
Where you’d come to pick up
The famously decadent
homemade cakes since 1993
To give away to your colleagues
before you left them too
You’d come to pick up your order
and to drop me off
So I could carry on
Without you this time
With just a last hug to hold
and I was moved to tears
and you said you’d wait for my postcards
Here I am again
Here to pick up an order myself
For my Godmother’s beloved
A visit long due
I am prepared to return home to them
after six long years
that passed too soon
Can I learn to celebrate our goodbye
Like I would a long awaited homecoming?
Because it meant only the best for you
And somehow good for me too
Knowing that I get to hold dear
Memories of you and me
We’re little children again
The best of friends
Reliving simpler days
together
