Write another spiritual platitude

as you tell people their life matters

and that they're loved 

Mindlessly declaring 

The abundant blessing of an elohim

You say you believe in


Here you sit safe and protected

Never at gunpoint 

A lukewarm, religiously tolerant

professor and messenger of the good news of a kingdom

that is crashing through

bringing you to a reckoning

and demanding all of you

All of your being

Smooth and clean feet

that haven't trod the beaten roads 

and borne wounds from going the distance 

Are you really a follower of The Way?

Sit tight

May your belief be helped

and may your unbelief break you 

and save you 

and lead you

to empty yourself 

in love

He asks of you to love 

with your whole being 

only after you learn

to receive it for yourself

Greater love, love, love  

That costs a life

of one that is truly human  

Surrender your little kingdoms 

There’s death all around you

There's death inside of you

Surrender to the death that leads to life
