Inertia

It's the closest
That we had gotten to each other
In more months than I could count
You roughly shook me awake
And I was so afraid
Not sure of whether or not I had arrived
But you held your arm over mine
In the time that I was beside you
Beside the bus driver's seat
A potential place to sit
Your grip got tighter
Through the inertia
You held onto me
Despite everything
We've put ourselves through
It was to end
That moment of mine
I always believed in your good heart
But I know it changes nothing
I wish it did

You told me to take my place in the seat
And then there was you
Persuading me to sleep on your lap
Your hand over my shoulder
Despite all that we put ourselves through
Thank-you for holding onto me
But I know it changes nothing
How I wish it did
