Reasoning
Breathe in the stench
Let it fill your lungs
Watch that human make his way
To the edge of the platform
To spit on the train tracks
Feel a drop of water on your skin
And how it burns
What we fear are purely academic findings,
can they change the world?
Look up to the sky
The light through the cloud cover
After a monsoon revival
Are we really at the receiving end
of the better half
of a 47% rain deficit
this languishing year?
We’re badmouthing the advocates
That don’t clean up after themselves
Scrubbing their bathrooms clean
We are at the service of
The harbingers of justice
Can we learn to delight ourselves in abundance?
In You?
How do you delight in us
When there’s so much poverty
Inside of us?
We do not do right by others
or by You
in our thoughts
Can we abandon the ways
we betray each other
in our minds?
Rescue me from
this addiction to discontentment
Rescue me from
feeling limited by equally unideal options
Am I just indecisive?
Can’t you see how helpless I am?
